The ReSources podium (L271–L281)

Growing cotton in a greenhouse

This is the bet of G-Star Raw jeans in partnership with the University of Wageningen (Netherlands). The first results are impressive: each plant produces 9 to 12 times more cotton, using 10 times less water (#800 liters/kilo of cotton) and renewable energy, releasing fewer GHGs, while facilitating the relocation of production as close as possible to fashion brands. The EVA (or PEVA) market continues to grow

Ethylene vinyl acetate (or polyethylene vinyl acetate) was first used in fashion in 1975, when Brooks decided to use it for a line of shoes. Taken over by Nike in the 1990s, popularized as a solo material for Crocs or Havaianas in the early 2000s and today by Birkenstock. This market for comfortable, multi-colored casual shoes unfortunately comes from a petro-sourced material, whose environmental impacts are a priori negative (origin of the material, transformation energy, linear and massive production, international logistics, plastic waste , recycling conditions, etc.), not to mention the loss of know-how and diversity of traditions of ways of wearing shoes.
