COLLECTIVES

HEREWEAR HUB @ TCBL

If the turbulence we are experiencing creates collective fears eg climate, war, inequalities, we can turn these fears to make them levers of collective transformation: reimagine our future differently, restructure our societal organizations, and find collective energy in the service of change. Similarly in economics, new business models come from the “power to do” with the ambition of creating social value (in addition to profit), and the major principle of working in an ecosystem with partners and allies, who together have the desire to achieve change. Find examples of these business models

TRAINING

VETRINE

On January 14, 2024, online launch of Green VETRINE, a MOOC allowing fashion designers and technicians to acquire the basics of sustainable design and manufacturing and available in 7 languages. This presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. Do not hesitate to share this date around you, while waiting to register for the event on a link posted online at the beginning of January!

PROOFS

TCBL

After about 20 years of Greenwashing (overcommunicating in a misleading manner), now is the time to communicate better, by providing proof of what is announced eg compliance with laws and standards, transparency and authenticity (without falling into other traps including Greenhushing, the opposite which silences any initiative on the grounds that it risks being criticized). By becoming a member of the TCBL network, you will be invited to share activities demonstrating your contribution to the transformation of the Textile & Clothing sector towards a positive impact. More information in the box below.

TCBL brings together people and organizations to nurture community and create a truly sustainable textile and apparel industry. Together, we love to share and learn, produce and act, explore and prototype sustainable systems. Join for free, as a contributing member, or as a lifetime member.

Sleeping beauties

In times of uncertainty, we return to brands that are synonymous with quality and safe values, that have embodied an era or an innovation. Think of Keds (canvas), Sperry (boats), or SeaVees (cool) in footwear or Filson (gold diggers and lumberjacks), A&F (athletes), or Antler (travelers) in the outdoor sector. And you, what are your sleeping beauties? Your suggestions will be a bit like our Christmas present! Send your ideas

HubCycle: a circular business model that works

Since 2016, the company has been collecting co-products from primary agricultural processing (e.g. fruit skins, pressing residues), and extracting high value-added inputs for cosmetics and the agri-food industry through sourcing and an ecosystem of subcontractors. In 2024: 600 tonnes of co-products have saved 4,000 tonnes of CO2 for a turnover of 7 million euros in 2024. READ

AI and training

Since the IMF's estimate of the replacement of repetitive tasks by AI, one of the questions raised is the development of new human skills that we will have to acquire. Three are frequently cited: critical thinking (which assumes at least the understanding of the very concept of the algorithm and the source data), creativity (which at least raises the level of requirement of the requested solution) and honesty. Three skills that are probably among the essentials of a future education. READ

Europeans more demanding than non-Europeans on the importance that companies or brands must give to the environment, sustainable society and governance… and more attentive to Greenwashing. Probably a convergence between quality cultures and the importance of European rules and standards to preserve this quality. READ
