On the road to success
In the textile-clothing-accessories sectors, the intergenerational transmission of SMEs created in the last century is often delicate: 30% of these SMEs survive after one generation and only 10% after a second. The Success Road project implements solutions to resolve these transmission challenges in order to preserve European know-how and cultural diversity, while using contemporary strategies and methods. WINTEX
Modern machines and training
Over the past few weeks, the WINTEX project has made rapid progress on some of its objectives regarding capacity building in Tunisia. Currently, all the equipment of the Textile Innovation center of the University of Sfax is already installed at the Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts. In addition, all planned training sessions are also successfully carried out taking into account the strategic direction in terms of textile development of the center based on textile digitalization and clothing design. It is important to emphasize that this center will weave a direct link of contact between individuals (center staff, designers, researchers, executives and technicians of Tunisian textile companies) in order to boost cooperation and collaboration to make innovation flourish in the sector. The hyper fast fashion from Shein is bad news in responsible fashion
Some key figures illustrate the growth of this

Chinese (created in 2008) but having benefited greatly from successive confinements. By analyzing the data of their targets on social networks (notably TikTok and Instagram), its 2021 revenues increased by almost 16% (while they were only growing by 2% in 2018) and 315,000 new products were put online on their website (in 4 months, January-April 2022), a frantic pace compared to H&M (4400) or Zara (6800). On the other hand, Shein contributes to destroying the planet with its disposable products and polluting fabrics and uses slave workers in 1000 workshops who work 24/7 for poverty wages.

Shapewear to use in moderation
THE Shapewear encompasses lingerie products that meet the needs of consumers when they want to have a sculpted body: slimmer waist, flatter stomach, thinner hips, firmer buttocks or thighs. Their properties mainly come from a higher percentage of elastane (25 to 35%) in the fabric used. This type of lingerie should be worn in moderation, when we know that, like the corsets of yesteryear, it can block the circulatory and digestive systems.

Dynamic World, monitoring the evolution of the planet
20 years after Google Earth, this service allows you to photograph the state of nature in all points on the planet regularly photographed by Google. The proposed maps differentiate blue (water) from green (forests, grassland), yellow (crops, brush), sand (deserts) or white (snow, ice). The application allows you to compare two maps at different times and thus follow the evolution of a territory.

MustGo, a winning bio-filter concept Biodesign Challenge Summit
Inspired by sphagnum moss which can retain up to 40 times its weight in liquids, this filter eliminates 80% of microplastics from water and adapts to the tap. Large-scale use of this filter would require planting moss farms near villages upstream and creating a recycling circuit downstream for filters full of these micro-plastics.
